Nokia Booklet 3G: An Oversized Smartphone or a Downsized Notebook?
Treading Trends
Just a few years ago the trend that technology was taking ran along the lines of 'the smaller the better.' When it came to computers, manufacturers continued to produce portable computers that became smaller and smaller. Portability was the determining factor here as we all saw the emergence of netbooks ' downsized laptops that sported all the basic features of a portable computer, but with a more compact design. The same trend was followed by mobile phones as they all got smaller and smaller to the point that we now have a watch phone or a wristwatch that also functions as a mobile phone.
However, it seems like the trend has recently taken a turn. Especially in the case of mobile phones, they all seem to be getting a bit bigger. You only need to look at the typical Smartphone to realize that these new mobiles aren't exactly compact; compared to their earlier counterparts, that is. The fact is that the more technologically advanced the mobile, the bigger it gets. And now, with the new Nokia Booklet 3G, Nokia seems to have taken it into a whole new level. They now have a device that is smaller than the average notebook computer, but is definitely much bigger than the average Smartphone. So what is it?
Definitely Out of the Ordinary
The new Nokia Booklet 3G is definitely not like any other netbook out there; and neither is it like a typical Smartphone. However, it does share some of the features of both.
Based on its construction, it definitely is a netbook. It has that same compact design: only 2 cm thick and a total weight of only 1.25 kg (.11 kg lighter than the MacBook Air). All the prerequisite features of a typical netbook are also on board including Wi-Fi support, a 10.1-inch HD-ready display, a front-facing webcam, an extended battery life (up to 12 hours), and a full-on OS (Microsoft).
However, the Nokia Booklet 3G is also equipped with a bunch of features that are currently exclusive to the most advanced Smartphones in the market. Aside from (obviously) 3G integrated mobile broadband support, the Booklet 3G also has an A-GPS receiver. It is also equipped with a SIM card slot that sports the hot swappable feature as well.
The full list of specifications is yet to be unveiled by Nokia. Perhaps by then we'd know which league the Nokia Booklet 3G is going to play at. Until then, I guess we could all agree that it somewhat brings the best of both worlds.
